Letter from the Voice for Life President in the NZ Listener
The NZ Listener printed the below letter to the editor from Bernard Moran, Voice for Life National President, in their January edition.
13th January, 2015 Dear Editor,After reading “Dying Wishes”, a ten-page spread of photos and text, I really envy the Voluntary Euthanasia Society (VES).The editorial team at the NZ Listener provided free advertorial to promote their cause.Lecretia Seales truly tragic plight understandably elicits sympathy, as does every hard case used to promote assisted suicide and voluntary euthanasia.She is a senior legal and policy adviser for the Law Commission and is quoted as believing that her employer is best placed to advance the public debate.That may be so, but her advocacy as a now public supporter for the agenda of the Voluntary Euthanasia Society places the Law Commission in an invidious position that threatens to compromise its public image.I’ll explain why. The Voluntary Euthanasia Society and Maryan Street have failed to gain sufficient Parliamentary support. MPs weren’t being slack, they simply took seriously the warnings presented by medical and legal experts opposed to euthanasia.As the article makes clear, the VES is hoping the Law Commission is open to their influence, will find in their favour and hopefully persuade sufficient MPs to support their agenda.
